Tile installation in Sacramento

A few days ago we completed a 200 sq. ft. floor in the South Land Park/Green haven area.

The floor consisted of 12"x24" porcelain tile in a off set pattern.

The existing floor was a few layers of laminate flooring, Particle board and linoleum. We removed all of the existing materials and found out that the existing sub floor was tongue and grove planks.

For us to tile the floor a layer of 3/4" plywood needed to be installed prior to the cement board. After all of the plywood was installed, we installed 1/4" cement board. We then installed the 12x24 tile with a good quality meduim bed mortar.

Medium bed mortar is used only with large format tile, this is due to it being heavier than say 12x12 tile.

The medium bed has larger sand particles witch holds the tile better and prevent lipage between tiles.

This means that the tile floor will look a lot better compared to other methods of tile installation.

Fireplace done in Elk Grove

We just finished up a travertine fireplace in elk grove ca. The existing fireplace was a standard brick fireplace from the late 1980's.This home owner has had extensive tile and stone work done by us. We also remodeled their entire guest bathroom.

Anyways, they wanted a modern look for their outdated brick fireplace. They chose a 18x18 travertine.

All edges of the travertine were bull nosed and polished.

All of their floors were tiled by Divine Tile & Stone.

Tile shower in Davis CA

We are currently working on a tile shower/roman tub project in Davis Ca.

This project consists of gutting all of the existing tile, mud, thin set and grout. New hot mop tub, sheet rock installation, mud float and new tile installation.

This tile tub will be able to function like a regular tub and also like a shower. Every square inch will be tiled, including the walls, tub walls, shower/tub floor and outside walls.

There will be a layer of waterproof membrane that will prevent any water prom penetrating the tub walls when filled up. A special drain will be installed. I will post progress payments in a couple days.

This tile job was located in El Dorado Hills CA. It consisted of a full demo of the existing wood framing, slate and cement board. This tile installation failed over time due to no water proof membrane and improper materials used.

The original contractor failed to use any waterproof membrane. Over time the water penetrated through the grout, cement board and past the 3/4" plywood down to the actual wood structure. The wood framing was so damaged that 95% of the wood framing had to be removed. We fabricated a whole new set of stairs and replaced all of the damaged plywood.

We applied 2 layers of tar paper and wire in preparation for the mud float. The previous contractor failed to slope the patio deck away from the home, this was also another key factor on why the deck and stairs failed. We mud floated the deck, and sloped it away from the home so that any rain water that hit it would drain away from the home. After the deck mud set, we applied 2 layers of a liquid waterproof membrane that is rated for outdoor use. We set the slate tile with a high quality thin set rated for outdoor use.

The steps were also water proofed with a liquid water proof membrane, same as the one we used on the deck.

We also used a metal flashing for the sides of the stairs to prevent any future water damage.

We grouted all of the slate with high quality grout.

After letting the grout cure for 72 hours we sealed the slate and grout with a high quality enhancing sealer for natural stone. We used 511 Seal & Enhance by Miracle Sealants.

The home owner chose us for our reputation as a high quality tile contractor that provides high quality custom work.

Bathroom tile floor in downtown sacramento ca

We were contracted to tile a bathroom floor in Downtown Sacramento CA.

The existing sub floor was a bit of a headache due to half of it being wood and the other half being gypcrete.

We used a high quality crack isolation membrane before any of the tile was installed.

The home owner chose a 1"x1" hexagon tiles on a mat. They also chose to install a ceramic cove base instead of the usual wood base boards. Like always we used a high quality thin set to install the tiles to the membrane and wall. The tile installation went well and we grouted the tile with the grout color: Natural Grey.

Tile Shower in Davis Ca

This Monday we will start a very unique tile shower in Davis Ca. This shower will take some very unique tile work.

The walls and the actual tub will be mud floated and tiled.

This whole shower will be tore out, there will be new plumbing and all of it will be mud floated and water proofed.

This is also another shower installation that failed over the years due to improper waterproofing and installation techniques.

Slate Patio in El Dorado Hills CA

We started a slate tile patio in El Dorado Hills CA this week. This is an existing slate patio and steps that had been tiled a few years ago. The tile company who installed the tile failed to use any type of waterproof membrane. There were many steps that needed to be done to fully waterproof this patio.

We tore out the existing slate, cement board and plywood that was fully saturated with water. The existing wood structure was totally rotted and really bad shape. We agreed to tear the wood structure that was below the tile installation.

After the wood structure below the steps was removed, I contacted a Sacramento General Contractor I work with. After the estimate was approved he began to frame the steps and all of the areas that had water damage.

We are at the mud floating stage and will have photos of this tile installation shortly.

Tile flooring in Granite Bay CA

A couple weeks ago we started a ceramic tile floor project in Granite Bay. The area to be tiled was a kitchen floor that currently had linoleum and was over a wood sub-floor. The home owner chose a 12x12 ceramic tile with 2x2 mosaic inserts. He requested the tile to be set in a off set pattern, also know as brick joint.

We started by removing all of the appliances, and placing them aside. We then removed the linoleum and the particle board that it was installed on.

After all of the existing materials we removed, we installed 1/4" cement board. After that, all of the tile was installed.

We grouted the kitchen tile with a grout color that matched perfectly with the 12x12 tile. After the grouting was completed, we installed the refrigerator and the stove. This tile flooring project took 2 days to complete.
